Tell the community about your spiritual journey on Confirmation Sunday
“I’m not sure I am ready to make any promises during my confirmation. I am not sure I know what I think about all these topics. I’m not sure I ever will.”
When making promises to follow Jesus, we do not claim to have all the eternal mysteries solved once and for all. If you choose to join the church sometime after your confirmation, you will be joining a group of people on a journey. We have all come from different places but now we are moving in the same direction. It can shift and change because we’re not marching in lockstep. We’re following Jesus wherever he leads.
Take the time to talk to your mentors about how they understand these questions of faith and religion, membership and belonging. You may find that you hear a lot of your own questions in what they share with you. On Confirmation Sunday, you will be speaking for 3 minutes on your spiritual journey, so that the community can bless and strengthen you on your individual path. Your mentor will introduce you.
